Max is a PhD student in the Department of Civil and Systems Engineering (CaSE), the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University. His interests include actionable research in sustainability, public health, infrastructure, and equity. His latest work is focused on COVID-19 forecasting and forecast interpretation. This includes developing statistical/machine learning models used for real-time decision-making during the pandemic, as well as creating new methods to better characterize forecast utility and reliability. Previously, he studied energy systems and urban infrastructure, and designed and built novel biofuel technology.
