Lauren Gardner is the Alton and Sandra Cleveland Professor in the Department of Civil and Systems Engineering at Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering, holds a joint appointment In the Bloomberg School of Public Health, and is the Director of the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE). She is the creator of the JHU COVID-19 dashboard for tracking cases, deaths and vaccinations around the world. Gardner is a specialist in modeling infectious disease risk. Her work focuses holistically on disease transmission, specifically utilizing network optimization and mathematical modeling to improve our understanding of disease spreading patterns and risk as a function of climate, land use, human behavior, mobility and other contributing risk factors.  She has worked on a range of infectious diseases including dengue, Zika, Measles, MERS-CoV, Influenza and COVID-19. Prior to joining JHU she was a faculty member at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney.
