Espoir Bwenge Malembaka graduated in Medicine from the Université Catholique de Bukavu (UCB) and worked as a physician in the department of pediatrics at the Bukavu Provincial General Referral Hospital in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He obtained a Master of Public Health degree from the Makerere University in Uganda and a PhD in public health from the University of Louvain in Belgium. While working at the UCB, he played a key role in the design and conduct of field epidemiological studies in conflict and post-conflict settings of the DRC. At the Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Bwenge Malembaka is working as a post-doctoral research fellow and the DRC country supervisor of a research project aiming to assess the impact of mass oral cholera vaccination campaigns on cholera incidence and transmission dynamics in eastern DRC.
